Drea Cabral is quiet, academic, and driven; however, after just one conversation with her, one realizes she is so much more than that. Drea is a musician who finds escape and freedom in her music. She is competitive, earning her way to perform in Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center, and she is committed, practicing long hours even with rigorous AP courses. This fall, she will be taking her academics and her music to the next level when she attends Yale University!

To date, Drea has successfully passed 7 AP courses, and she is set to add another 4 to her list at the end of this year. She has a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 5.2 weighted GPA which is remarkable in a class of wildly academically competitive young people. Drea scored one of Carson High’s top ACT’s marks last year with a 34, and this is a huge accomplishment coming off of hybrid learning and other challenges of COVID-19. Drea is always quick to help tutor her peers when they are struggling and she does so in a humble and supportive manner.

Beyond the classroom, Drea is committed to music on all fronts. She is in Carson High School’s wind ensemble, she has been an active member of the marching band, and she has done Advanced Jazz. She is a member of several community bands, and she has worked to ensure that the next generation has access to thriving music programming.

Drea is humble about so many areas of her life, and one thing that I have worked with her to highlight is her ability to overcome great adversity. Drea’s mother has raised her and her siblings as a single mother all while putting herself through college to become a social worker. Drea’s grit and determination to excel and achieve is one she credits to her hardworking mother.

In college admissions, Drea has continued to shine. Her hard work has resulted in acceptance to the top schools in the nation including Brown and Fordham. She’s excited to attend Yale in the fall with a tremendous scholarship. CHS is proud of Drea’s commitment to academics, kindness, music and her future.
