Engineering and welding students from Carson High School (CHS) collaborated with the Carson City Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership class to design and create metal artwork for their effort to renew the Mills Park Amphitheater and Memorial. The students took hand-drawn sketches to derive the original art form, the Carson City Golden Eagle and the Nevada Bluebird.

Aaron Whit, CHS junior in Computer Integrated Manufacturing, modeled the birds in the computer program Fusion and prepared them for the plasma cutting table. Ben Morrison, CHS senior in Advanced Welding, completed the file transfer to the plasma cutting table and finished the metal to its colored state. Both of the students demonstrated excellent craftsmanship and a blast completing the project.

The finished piece has the metal colors brought out by oxy-acetylene processing. Carson City Leadership / Chamber of Commerce handled the installation of the metal art.
