Carson City School District’s Empire Elementary School, a leader in environmental sustainability and education, was thrilled to host a two-day showcase in partnership with the Green Schools National Network (GSNN). The showcase was held Thursday and Friday, Oct. 12-13, and spotlighted the school’s commitment to green initiatives and sustainability education, while also welcoming educators, community members and experts from across the nation.

GSNN is dedicated to promoting sustainability in schools and inspiring a new generation of environmentally-conscious citizens. The two-day showcase provided a platform for schools, educators and organizations to exchange ideas, share best practices and learn from one another.

Empire Elementary has long been committed to sustainability and environmental education. From energy-efficient initiatives eco-friendly curriculum integration, the school has been a trailblazer in the field of green education. Fourth and fifth grade classes also formed a Green Biz Kids club to stir interest in eco-friendly practices and cut down on water waste, provide commuting options, give tips on turning lights off when not in use and other efforts. Hosting the showcase last week was a testament to the school’s dedication to fostering a greener and more sustainable future.

The school offers special thanks to the sponsors and community partners that participated in helping make the Summit a success including Envirolution, Great Basin Brewing Co., Country Financial and ShawContract.
