The Carson City School District (CCSD) is pleased to honor school librarians during National School Library Month, a time to highlight the essential role school libraries and librarians play in transforming learning, promoting literacy and strengthening the school community. The theme for this year’s National School Library Month is “Everyone Belongs” which promotes the idea of inclusion and accessibility of resources that foster a sense of belonging and community through learning, discovery and exploration.

Whether within the school or across a virtual environment, CCSD’s three credentialed library media specialists (middle and high schools) and six classified library technicians (elementary schools) offer support, resources and tools to bridge achievement gaps, develop agency and strengthen the learning culture. Carson City School District library staff help inspire a love of literacy and empower students to be curious thinkers and life-long learners, who can find and use reliable resources and information in meaningful ways.

School Librarians support and serve their school community in a number of ways, such as:

  • Instructing learners as they navigate and master a full range of research, media literacy, information literacy and digital literacy skills.
  • Evaluating, selecting & curating inclusive collections that acknowledge and celebrate diverse experiences and create a community of lifelong readers.
  • Managing 1:1 technology devices and supporting educational technology.
  • Striving to create a library that is a vital and active center of learning to support students and families.
  • Matching students, families and staff to needed resources.
  • Serving as content area experts in research and inquiry, curriculum development, instruction and technology integration.

Our school libraries are safe, accessible and inviting places where everyone belongs. For more information about the Carson City School District Libraries, a presentation celebrating the highlights of each school can be found at www.bit.ly/CCSDSLM2021
